Gary graduated from East Texas Baptist University with a Bachelor of Music in 1995 and taught band and choir in the Hallsville Texas I.S.D. for two years.  After that, Gary did postgraduate study at the University of North Texas and earned a Master of Music Education in 1999.

After serving for several years as a worship pastor in the local church, he sought training in public speaking from CLASServices (Christian Leaders, Authors, & Speaker Services), and in 2007 joined the teaching faculty for the CLASSeminar, a national conference for training speakers and authors, and the Personality Training Workshop.  He has been published on Crosswalk.com, is a contributing author to The One Year Life Verse Devotional (Tyndale, 2007), and has served as a contributing author for Marita Littauer's recent books, Wired That Way and Communication Plus.

Gary also writes a column called "Transforming Worship" for the Baptist General Convention of Texas Department of Worship and Music.

A worship pastor for the past 15 years, Gary has developed a passion for leading God's people in corporate worship. He understands that worshipping God "in spirit and in truth" goes beyond what style of music is played, or which songs are sung. True worship of God involves your heart, and how you live your life each day. Over the last 10 years at his home church, The Avenue Church (formerly Ferris Avenue Baptist Church) in Waxahachie, TX, Gary has helped his Senior Pastor lead the church through a transition in worship to incorporate new music, drama, and new audio/video technologies. The successful inclusion of these new elements, as well as the standard hymns the church was used to singing, has strengthened their church and enabled them to reach out to a new generation of non-Christians. Through his successes and setbacks, Gary has gained valuable insight into this worship transformation process. If you are interested in leading your church through a similar transformation, then he is eager to share those experiences with you! In his current position as the Pastor of Worship Arts, Gary has also empowered a strong team of volunteers to help lead the Arts Ministry at Ferris Avenue. Ephesians 4:11-12 makes it clear that God has called pastors to "prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up." This philosophy of ministry has multiplied effectiveness of the Arts Ministry at The Avenue, and empowered the team members to exercise their gifts to serve the Body of Christ. This experience in team building can also be a valuable tool to help grow the Worship Arts Ministry (or any other ministry) at your church. As a trained speaker, Gary is also available to you for Worship Ministry Retreats, Trainings, Clinics, etc.
